A farmer had to take one of his sheep for veterinary treatment after it was attacked by a dog last Thursday (January 21).

The animal was found disrupting traffic around Stowford Rise until resident Matthew Baker and the police could ‘corral’ it into an alleyway.

PC Steve Lee said officers arrived at around noon and described the injury to the sheep’s face as ‘very nasty’.

East Devon District Council encourages responsible dog ownership and recommends training pets in obedience to ensure they are under control at all times.

It also asks owners to keep their dog on a lead when near a road or other animals and, where possible, not to walk dogs through fields with livestock in them.
