Shoppers and slimmers donate to Sidmouth Food Bank

Generous shoppers have donated two trolleys full of food to support the town’s food bank.
Members of Sidmouth Slimming World groups collected many items including tins, sauces and cereals, outside Waitrose last week.
The slimmers have been participating in ‘free food February’ and decided to take the term more literally by helping out the charity by holding their own collection at weekly group meetings.
Jon Borowik, Slimming World consultant, said: “We asked for and received lots of items that the Food Bank are desperately low on, beans, cereals, pasta, sauces, baby toiletries, tinned fruits and washing up liquid plus much more.
“It was lovely to be collecting on behalf of a local cause that survives off of the support from the community.
“We have also been collecting donations directly from our Slimming World members each week in group and have matched with a similar sized donation to that of the Waitrose one too.”
A member of the food book said the donation had ‘saved’ them during the week.
The food bank’s session leader Andie Milne said: “Words fail me with the generosity of the community not only have the slimming world club being collecting for us in their session but they donated three hours of their time to collect at Waitrose.”
