But woman still faces charges of assualting paramedics and police

A MUM who asked ambulance staff to leave her home after her baby was hurt in an accident has been cleared of child neglect.

The Sid Valley woman was found not guilty of the charge on the orders of a judge- but still faces four counts of assualting paramedics and police.

She has told a jury at Exeter Crown Court that she became upset because she thought paramedics were falsely accusing her of causing the injury to the boy.

The woman denies assaulting two ambulance staff and two police officers who were called to her home. She says she was defending herself as they tried to restrain her.

The prosecution say she had drunk up to five cans of cider at her home before an incident which started when her partner dropped a pair of scissors on the head of the baby.

She called an ambulance but it is alleged she became distressed and obstructive once emergency nurse Raymond Bowden turned up and lashed out at him, another paramedic and police.

The mother said she had only wanted the best for her child and had never tried to stop him being treated but has asked the two first responders, who had arrived by car, to leave while she waited for an ambulance.

She said she became upset because she thought Mr Bowden was suggesting the injury was non accidental but denied running at him or hitting out at him.

The woman told the jury he had jumped at her and pinned her down while she was shouting at him to leave her home.

She said: “I never stopped my son being taken to hospital. I felt the questions Mr Bowden was asking appeared to be insinuating we had willfully injured the baby.

“I found his questions aggressive and antagonising. We had made it clear it was an accident. It raised my levels of anxiety.

“When I went upstairs to get the child’s things to go to hospital he followed me with his colleague and they came into my bedroom. I told them to leave and they eventually shuffled back.”

She said she eventually asked them to leave the house altogether until the ambulance arrived but the argument became more heated in the hallway and Mr Bowden grabbed her as she shouted at him to leave.

She said: “He launched himself at me and grabbed my wrists and pinned me to the floor. I was pushed against the stairs. I was shocked at what he had done.”

The trial continues.
