SIDBURY’S fireworks extravaganza went off with a bang on Saturday.

Around 2,000 people attended the event at Sidbury Manor, which featured performances by 31 and Street Heat samba band. As it was Hallowe’en time, the bonfire was in the shape of a pumpkin, with two witches perched on top as the ‘Guys’.

There was a VIP area for the sponsors, with champagne and food by the Salty Monk at Sidford. Gold sponsor Waitrose had a stall offering local produce, and there was a bar and hog roast.

Fireworks treasurer Roger Davey said some of the proceeds would go to local charities once the accounts had been finalised. He thanked Manor owners Sir John and Lady Cave and Alan Derryman, who farms the land, and the volunteers involved, including fireworks chairman Brad Jenkins.

“The event was a great success, apart from the rather poor weather at the start,” said Roger.
