Sidbury hanging - inquest opened

AN INQUEST was opened and adjourned on Tuesday into the sudden death of a man found hanging at his home on Sidbury Manor estate.

AN INQUEST was opened and adjourned on Tuesday into the sudden death of a man found hanging at his home on Sidbury Manor estate.

Charles Gray, 50, one of a number of tenants on the estate, was found by his wife at their cottage on the afternoon of Monday, December 29.

Devon Air Ambulance was scrambled, but later stood down. Two land ambulances and four police officers also attended at around 3.45pm.

A police spokesman said: "This death is not being treated as suspicious. The coroner has been informed and investigations will take place. Local officers attended on the day and carried out preliminary investigations."

Sidmouth PCSO Alex Powe, who was present with PC Adrian Tapp, said Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO) were also there.

The Cave family, who own Sidbury Manor, expressed their distress at hearing of Mr Gray's death.
