TRAFFIC jams in Sidbury, which are a major problem for residents, may soon be alleviated if the county council adopts a move to ease congestion.
County councillor Roger Giles brought up the issue at DCC's East Devon Highways and Traffic Orders Committee last week after several councillors and members of the public complained to him.
He said: "The problem is the main road through Sidbury is a busy one. There is a concern about the volume and speed of traffic. A 20 mph limit was introduced a year or so ago but congestion is still a problem.
"The area around Sidbury Mill particularly is problematic as the road is narrow and there are often big vehicles in each direction getting stuck."
Committee members agreed for a council officer to visit the site and to draw up a plan for a one way priority system on that part of the road which automatically changes after a certain length of time.
Mr Giles, who has himself witnessed vehicles getting into difficulty near the mill, said he hoped the committee will agree to the plans at the next meeting.
