SID Vale Athletics is holding its second fundraising event in the run up to Sidford's annual fun day.

For the first time in its history, two coffee mornings were arranged by organisers of the fun day in a bid to make up the 600 they lost last year.

Atrocious weather meant the group had to cancel the event at the eleventh hour leaving a large hole in its funds.

The first coffee morning, held in February, was hailed as a success as dozens of people turned up to support the group.

Marion Perry, secretary of Sid Vale Athletics, said: "We've nearly made up the 600 but we've still got to get a little bit more to catch up."

And the group are hoping the second coffee morning, to be held next weekend, will also draw in the crowds.

It will take place in Sidford Social Hall from 10am to noon on Saturday, May 2 and will feature numerous stalls including cakes, jewellery, cards, calendars and bric-a-brac.

By the time this year's fun day comes around on Monday, May 25, organisers are hoping the coffers will be fully replenished.

Marion added: "We had tremendous support at the first coffee morning and are looking forward to this year's fun day."

Plans are already well under way for this year's family attraction which will be held on Sidford Rugby field from 2pm.

The 'old-fashioned' event will feature traditional stalls such as throwing wet-sponges and apple bobbing.

Some of the profit will be shared between St Nicholas PTFA and Sid Vale Carnival Club and members will be helping out on the day.

Now Marion and the rest of Sid Vale Athletics are keeping their ' fingers crossed' for a sunny May Bank Holiday.
