RACY EVENT: A charity race night, hosted by Sidmouth Rotary Club, will take place at the Blue Ball Inn, Sidford, on Thursday, November 10, at 7.30pm. Tickets (£10) include a lasagne supper and are available from the Blue Ball, or by calling (01395) 542544.
BLANKET WARNING: Colder weather has seen fire safety chiefs issue an electric blanket blaze warning to residents in Sidmouth and Ottery areas. Devon and Somerset Fire & Rescue Service bosses want householders to be safe by taking simple precautions – like having blankets tested. Community safety officer Carol Frances said: “In previous years, 40per cent of all blankets we tested failed checks. Faulty electric blankets can cause serious fires but they can be prevented.”
TV WARNING: Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service has reminded Sidmouth residents that Sony has issued a public information notice of a potential issue affecting a very limited number of Bravia LCD television models which have been available for purchase in Europe since June 2007. The model numbers are KDL-40D3400, KDL-40D3500, KDL-40D3550, KDL-40D3660, KDL-40V3000, KDL-40W3000, KDL-40X3000, KDL-40X3500.
PUPPY PLEA: Willing puppy walkers in Sidmouth and Ottery areas have become the subject of a police search. Devon and Cornwall Police is on the lookout for volunteers to look after dogs until they em-bark on constabulary training courses. vHelpers are asked to feed, exercise and care for the puppies for one year. Police pay for food and veterinary bills. Without the scheme, German Shepherd Fred - who suffers from a hip problem - would never have been accepted into the force. Fred was thrown it at the deep end – literally – after undergoing hydrotherapy training in a swimming pool. Anyone interested in becoming a puppy walker can contact the police dog training school on (01392) 452410.
