A university student from Sidford has taken his business into a new dimension after signing a contract with an international entertainment company.

Harry Furneaux’s pioneering 3D photography technique has been snapped up by Merlin Entertainments, the second largest theme park company in the world.

His Active Snaps service will be the main photography service at London’s Madame Tussaud’s waxworks and Sealife Centre.

The 24-year-old said: “I pitched to them five or six times over the year – it feels amazing to have won them over, it’s a massive opportunity.”

The attractions will be used as testing ground and the service will be rolled out across world if it is a success.

“They (Merlin Entertainments) were looking for a 3D photography company for years – I jumped in at the right time,” said Harry.

He taught himself to write the software, which overlays a 2D image onto a 3D background to depict, for example, sharks in an aquarium.

In May Harry’s business model won him a 5,000 prize from the University of Greenwich, where he is in the final year of a politics degree.

Despite running the business on his own, he says has not been distracted from his studies and the size of his workload actually makes him more efficient.

Harry, whose family live in Harcombe Lane, is looking ahead to appearing on the BBC’s Dragons’ Den, which will return later in the year.
