THE OWNER of Sidmouth's African shop, Judith Smith, is re-launching her shop and changing its name to coincide with One World Week, which starts on Sunday, October 18.

Now in its sixth year, The Village Collection, High Street, will be changed to Sanaa House and continue to sell Fair Trade products.

"I wanted to brand the products and the Village Collection was confusing as to which village they came from," said Judith, who comes from Tanzania.

"Sanaa means Art in Swahili and I wanted a word to summarise my products."

To mark the transformation, Jo Smallbones, an image and colour consultant, will be at the launch party on Sunday, October 18, to talk about choosing the right colours and accessories.

Judith will introduce a loyalty card at the opening, which will run from 12-5.30pm.

Simon Spiller from Otterton Mill will host a taster session of produce at the shop on Monday, October 19 and there will be bead workshops there on Tuesday, October 20 and Thursday, October 22, from 6-8pm and cheesy tasties from Trumps will be on offer on the Thursday.

Also on Tuesday, Alan Bruford will talk about sustainable education.

On Wednesday Judith will talk about Fair Trade and the sourcing of her African products and on Friday Ann Bruford will give a workshop on silver making, looking back at Roman times.

Deirdre Dee will give a workshop on Thursday about creative planning, using vision boarding, mind maps and creative meditation.

A wine and nibbles evening rounds off the week on Saturday when Deirdre and Judith will talk about the Buturi Project.

Earlier in the afternoon Gill Burbidge from Bicton College will talk on diversity and making wool products.
