Sidmouth Air Cadets invite original participants to mark historic Torquay parade of 1942

AIR CADETS from Sidmouth will mark an historic visit to Torquay in May.

A group from 2019 (Sidmouth) Squadron will be joined by other cadets and staff from Devon & Somerset Wing of the Air Training Corps, to mark the 70th Anniversary of a visit by King George VI and his wife, Queen Elizabeth, to the town in 1942.

During the visit, the King (pictured) took the salute during a parade through the town consisting of RAF airmen who were trained there. Now, original participants of the parade are being invited to join the cadets on this special occasion.

Wing media communications officer, Squadron Leader Dave Rolfe, said: “If you are one of the original participants of the parade in 1942 or one of the airmen who trained in Torquay during the war, we would like to invite you as our special guests at the saluting dais to mark the occasion with us on May 5,2012.”
