A CONCERNED Sidmouth councillor contacted the district council last week after he noticed hazardous pieces of metal sticking out of Sidmouth beach.

Councillor Stuart Hughes was walking along the beach last Friday when he noticed the rough metal sticking out of the sand near to where boats are launched on the east side of the beach.

It is believed the bad weather exposed the metal which has been lying underneath the sand for several years.

An EDDC spokesperson said: "I can confirm that our officers are aware that they are there and are investigating what they are and how they can be removed.

"The council will make sure they are disposed of appropriately, either by our own staff or by the agency responsible for them.
