Sidmouth booze warning after window damage
POLICE in Sidmouth have warned late-night revellers that over-indulging in booze could see them end up in court.
POLICE in Sidmouth have warned late-night revellers that over-indulging in booze could see them end up in court.
Officers have told residents who enjoy a tipple at town nightspots that “senseless and mindless” acts won’t be tolerated.
The message comes after a 22-year-old man was last month handed a community order, 50 hours unpaid work and ordered to pay 200 in compensation after he damaged a Fore Street store on November 13.
Wayne Perry admitted smashing a window at Pure Indulgence when he appeared before magistrates sitting in Exeter on April 14. Three other offences were also taken into consideration by the court, police said.
PC Dave Wallace said Perry’s own friends gave crucial witness statements to police.
“Lots of residents in the area were disturbed by it,” PC Wallace told the Herald.

“Part of his own group of friends, who had been out that night, heard the glass smash and found him in front of the shop.
“Those who were present named him and statements were obtained.
“Witnesses are very important and we’d like to thank those people for helping.”
PC Wallace added: “Our message is be sensible when you’ve been drinking and when you leave pubs and clubs.
“We will investigate criminal damage. There is no call for this sort of thing in our community. It’s senseless and mindless.
“People drinking should enjoy themselves but need to know their limits. Since this incident we’ve been putting resources in that part of town - mainly special constables.”
