A FULL house at the Masonic hall hailed Sidmouth Gig Club’s Burns supper as a roaring success, writes Val Huntington.
The wee beastie-otherwise known as the haggis- was piped in by Fergus Heuston Holmes who then went on to entertain the audience with the famous poet’s address. After much Scottish merriment, ably assisted by his companions, the evening proceeded with a bagpipe blowing competition and sword dancing.
The evening proceeded with an auction for a rare lost poem by Robert Burns which had been miraculously discovered in South America, and a radio kindly donated by Mike Ford.
Festivities ended with the raffle for which the gig club would like to thank all those who donated prizes. Thanks also go to Haymans for the most delicious haggis, Taste, Vinnicombes and Winchesters as well as the Masons for use of the hall.
Altogether nearly �900 was raised.
The next social event is the long awaited quiz on March 19 at the Port Royal Club when the hotly contested cup will be at stake.
The evening will be themed around the quiz subject which will be a closely guarded secret until the night.
