YOUNG army cadets in Sidmouth got a treat when they were invited to the town’s fire station on Monday.
Nineteen youngsters visited the Woolbrook Road base, watched firefighters carry out a practice road traffic collision rescue exercise, and even got to don their gear.
Sidmouth Army Cadets Detachment Commander Adrian Smith hailed the visit as “brilliant.”
As part of their cadet syllabus, youngsters visit services in the community. They got safety briefings on Monday and learnt about the job town firefighters do.
“All in all it was very exciting and educational entertainment,” said detachment commander Smith.
“The cadets thoroughly enjoyed it and absorbed all the information they were given. It was a brilliant visit. It was good to see the firefighters in action.”
Cadets meet on Mondays and Wednesdays at the ATC Hall in Manstone Lane from 7pm to 9pm.
The organisation is always looking to recruit young people from the local area aged from 12 to 18.
