A family business outside Sidmouth is in the running to be named ‘holiday park of the year’ in the Devon Tourism Awards.

Oakdown Touring and Holiday Caravan Park is one of three finalists in the category and it could go on to be entered into the South West Tourism Excellence Awards.

The announcement comes at the end of a busy period for the Franks family, who have introduced shepherd’s huts, a brand new reception area and a redesigned coffee shop and restaurant.

Alastair Franks, whose family has developed Oakdown since the 1970s, said: “To be recognised in these awards is such a great boost for us, and we’re thrilled to be a finalist in what is known to be a tough competition.”

The winner will be announced at an awards ceremony in Plymouth on Thursday, November 23. A spokesman said: “Judges were looking for evidence not just of ‘good’ but of ‘excellent’, hence to be a finalist is a very significant achievement indeed.”
