CARERS in Devon are being encouraged to register with Devon Carers Link. The campaign was launched last week and will run until the end of the year. There are an estimated 72,000 informal carers in the county but only 6000 are registered with Devon Carers Link. Matthew Byrne, manager of Devon Carers Link, said: "There is a lot of help for carers once they have registered. In the past we have helped carers, through our flexible grant scheme, to go on holiday, pursuit hobbies and stay in touch with relatives and friends." Young carers who are caring for a parent are also being encouraged to register. Carers can register online at www.devon.gov.uk/devoncares or by calling 0845 155 1016 and they will receive a carer's pack containing information about financial and practical help.
