NEW driving forces behind Sidmouth Carnival have issued a plea for help to build on their “very successful” first year.

NEW driving forces behind Sidmouth Carnival have issued a plea for help to build on their “very successful” first year.

Committee members and fundraisers are being sought after a low turnout at organisers’ annual general meeting.

“We need all the help we can get to continue as we did last year,” said carnival committee chairman Terry Clarke.

He told the Herald that enough cash was raised to cover the entire cost of the September spectacular in 2010- and fundraising was well under way for this year’s event.

“The 2010 procession was better than anyone could have hoped for,” said Mr Clarke.

“The entries were first class, coming from many parts of Devon. The standard of judging was well received and the weather was perfect.

“The local police were very helpful which made the procession run so smoothly.

“If anyone would like to come along and join us they can easily be co-opted onto the committee. If they don’t fancy joining the committee but could help us with fundraising events, it would be great,” he added.
