An appeal for donations of buttons so African children can learn arithmetic took 14lbs in a week – but the Sidmouth organisers want even more.
Save the Children are collecting the fastenings for Trade Aid, a charity that operates in southern Tanzania.
It gives aid by teaching English and maths, and the buttons are also distributed to dressmakers.
Save the Children, in Church Street, hopes with the items it receives from spring cleans, it can double or trouble the number.
The shop is open from 10am until 4pm Monday to Saturday.
