POLICE are warning people to be cautious when accepting payment by cheque for vehicles or high value items.

POLICE are warning people to be cautious when accepting payment by cheque for vehicles or high value items.

The advice comes after a spate of fraud type incidents where cars have been advertised for sale and have been purchased by cheques which have subsequently bounced.

Police recommend not to release the goods until the cheque has cleared which can take up to three working days.
