STAFF at Sidmouth’s Fields Coffee Shop were elated to land a top regional award.

The Market Place business bagged a gold gong in the caf or tea room category of the Taste of the West’s Hospitality and Retail Awards.

Fields was one of only two Devon cafs to win gold.

The business only joined Taste of the West this year, as its management believe in buying and working with local producers and manufacturers.

Delighted staff said this ethos, teamed with the coffee shop providing ‘service as it used to be’, is the secret of their success.

“To win this award is fantastic,” said Paul Grainger, coffee shop manager, “however, it is a team effort and everyone played their part”.

Fields Coffee Shop will now be put forward for the Taste of the West South West regional title and in the “Taste” category of the South West Excellence Awards.

The coffee shop has also been nominated by tourists to win a Cottages4you Go Local Award.

Go Local Awards are designed to champion independent businesses which help make people’s holidays memorable.

With more than 1,500 nominations, Fields was shortlisted after bagging more than 1,500 nominations.

“We were delighted to hear that our customers have taken the time to nominate us,” said Paul, “now all we have to do is wait for the results, which are due next month”.
