Sidmouth College students have paid their respects with a series of events to commemorate the centenary of the end of World War One.
Among the tributes to fallen soldiers was a display and wreath customised with personalised messages. An art installation of clay poppies was also put up in the school’s grounds after talented artists spent time in lessons and art club to create the flowers.
A selection of students joined the People’s Procession last Friday which was described as a ‘memorable’ experience for all involved. The remainder of the school were joined by staff for an act of remembrance in the school hall.
Principal Sarah Parsons said: “It was important to have all the staff and students from the college come together in this way and give the occasion the attention it deserved.
“The college has reflected the remembrance that was taking place in the community on Friday and, was able to take time to stop and remember that our lives would be very different if it wasn’t for the sacrifices that were made 100 years ago.
“All students were very respectful during the commemoration and were a credit to themselves and the college.”
