POLITICALLY minded Sidmouth College students will see their wish to secure free bus passes for youngsters go all the way to Westminster- and have bagged �250 for their efforts.
Teens from the college were presented with a cheque by Councillor Stuart Hughes after taking part in East Devon District Council's (EDDC) Local Democracy Week last year.
As a result of views put forward by Sidmouth students, the council's executive board voted to make strong representation to Government to provide free bus passes for young people.
Cllr Hughes, put forward the motion, and said: "This just goes to show that young people will be heard. We don't know yet whether Government will heed our request, but it is important that we listen to what is being said to us by our younger constituents, and that we do something about it."
A series of road-shows was run by the council to encourage youngsters to think about politics and how it impacts on their lives, what they can do to influence decision making and the importance of voting.
Students will decide how the �250, a thank-you to the college for taking part, will be spent.
