EACH of the 147 pupils in Year 7 at Sidmouth College has received a free book as part of a government initiative called Booked Up.

EACH of the 147 pupils in Year 7 at Sidmouth College has received a free book as part of a government initiative called Booked Up.

It aims are to encourage youngsters to own, value and read books.

This year 12 titles were on offer and the most popular chosen was Skulduggery Pleasant by Derek Landy and Why Eating Bogeys is Good for You by Mitchell Symons.

Close behind was Malcolm Rose's book Kiss of Death.

Louise Harrison, assistant library at Sidmouth College said: "We register every year and this year we had a CD to show pupils about the authors talking about their books."

The college also had a set of the free books for students to study before making their selection.
