A SIDMOUTH College teacher has expressed his disappointment at missing out on competing in his 20th London Marathon this year - after breaking his hip and arm in two places.

Marathon veteran and English lecturer Trevor Cope, 54, had hoped to add to the £25,000 he has raised for charities in sponsorship over the years but a recent fall put an end to his aspirations.

He said: "I had a very unpleasant fall on Woodbury Common- I was fortunate to be with my son at the time and to have the help from large number of passers by.

"Needless to say I will not be running the London Marathon this year, the first one I have missed since 1990.

"I want to thank all the people who have wished me well.
