Investors wanted to back Sidmouth-based comedy film production
THREE former Sidmouth College students have gone into the film script-writing business.
Oliver Dowling, Adam Jarrell and Joel Emery have formed Primley Road Productions and recently gained the backing of award-winning film production company MWS Media, based in Newbury, Berks.
Now the trio are seeking funding for their latest comedy feature film, The Catch.
Shooting begins in Sidmouth in July, with post-production continuing into the autumn.
Since leaving Sidmouth College, Oliver, 23, from Seaton, graduated from Kingston University with honours in film and creative writing and his passion for comedy was rewarded when he won Best Original Joke on BBC Radio in 2010.
He co-wrote and starred in a TV series pilot, Clive.
Joel’s short film, Exposures, was shortlisted at several national film festivals. Joel, 22, from Sidmouth, collaborated on Clive and currently works for the BBC as head of graphic design and moving images for shows such as Match of the Day.
Currently on tour with Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, in which he plays Pharoah, actor, singer Adam, 24, from Sidmouth, wowed audiences with his performance as Jean Valjean in Sidmouth Youth Theatre’s Les Miserables before leaving Sidmouth College.
He said: “Our objective is to provide the film industry with a fresh approach to home-grown British comedy.
“It would be amazing to keep the project within Sidmouth. It will be great for the town as this film will possibly have international cinema release.
“We will hopefully use local businesses, amenities and residents for walk-on parts and extra work.”
Adam said £4,000 is needed to cover the costs for the film, pre and post production.
“Our relationship with MWS Media entitles us to this low production cost and budget as they are happy to provide both crew, equipment and full use of their in-house facilities.
“We are asking for anything people are willing to invest, not necessarily the full amount.
“This is a real success story, both for East Devon and Sidmouth College and could provide a great deal of interest in Sidmouth.”
