A SUGGESTION that Sidmouth Town Council moves its monthly meetings from the first to second Monday of each month has been rejected.

A SUGGESTION that Sidmouth Town Council moves its monthly meetings from the first to second Monday of each month has been rejected.

Councillor Jack Brokenshire, who represents Sidford ward on the council, said meetings would have to be moved five times in 2010 because of clashes with bank holidays.

Although he could see the logic of his argument, Councillor Chris Wale thought it might start interfering with the dates of planning and tourism meetings.

Councillor Ann Liverton said: "If members are not bright enough to know when there is a bank holiday I really don't know what this is coming to."

As district councillor for Woodbury and Colaton Raleigh parishes she said if meetings were moved she would either miss these parish council meetings or Sidmouth's.

"I don't see the point of upsetting the whole calendar, surely members can work it out."

Councillor Graham Liverton added: "Why mend something when it isn't broken?"

Other councillors with commitments outside the chamber, were against the move and Mr Brokenshire's proposal was unsupported.
