PATHETIC AND MINDLESS: Vandals who trashed a notice showcasing a fledgling ecosystem on Sidmouth beach have been slammed by angry residents.

The Sidmouth in Bloom sign was targeted on Tuesday evening. “If there was a medal for pathetic and mindless activity then the culprits would win gold easily,” said passer-by Neil Pockett who spotted the damage.

CIVIC SYMBOL: Town councillors are to consider whether Sidmouth’s highest civic honour should be symbolised with a logo.

They will discuss the design and purchase of a badge or insignia, that freemen of Sidmouth can wear on civic occasions, at a meeting on Monday.

There are currently only two freemen of Sidmouth.

PARKING TICKET: Council chiefs won’t cancel a parking ticket dished out to a disabled driver who stopped in Sidmouth High Street for two minutes to post a birthday card.

The Herald reported last week how Angela Alexander, 64, labelled the fine “unfair and uncompassionate”.

However, an East Devon District Council (EDDC) spokesman said the authority’s decision stands.

He added that appeals had been rejected by EDDC on behalf of Devon County Council.

DONKEY FAIR: The Donkey Sanctuary will stage its Summer Fair, come rain or shine, on Sunday.

It is a chance to find out how mules differ from donkeys, and to watch donkey displays and dog agility tests.

Fun also includes a Punch and Judy show, bouncy castle, skittles and face painting.

The event starts at 10am and admission is free.
