An elderly couple injured in a serious collision near Sidmouth are inviting those that came to their aid for a cup of tea to say thank you.

The Sidmouth residents were taken to hospital following the incident near the Bowd Inn last Monday (November 26) at 7.12pm.

The road was closed for five hours following the collision, which involved an Audi A8 and a Rover 25.

The couple were released the next day from the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

The couple recall people rushing to help them out of the car following the crash, giving clothing to keep them warm.

In a letter to the Herald they said: “My husband and I wish to thank everyone that came to our aid after the car accident we were in on Monday, November 26, near the Bowd Inn. Unfortunately we were in no state to take in who was who but our heartfelt thanks go out to you all.

“You know who you are.”
