A DOG plunged 150ft to its death when a walk along the Sidmouth coast ended in tragedy last Sunday.
Rescuers scoured shoreline linking Ladram Bay and High Peak after the concerned owners of a Springer Spaniel reported it missing at 3.15pm. The owners, who were visiting the area, feared the pet had fallen from the cliffs but couldn’t pinpoint an exact location to a Sidmouth Lifeboat crew which had been scrambled by Portland Coastguard.
The lifeboat crew carried out a close inshore search as one member went ashore at High Peak to walk the coast back towards Ladram Bay.
A second crew member went ashore at Sandy Cove, immediately east of Ladram Bay, when his colleague spotted a possible target.
The crew members confirmed the dog was the one being searched for and it had sadly not survived a fall of around 45 metres.
Lifeboat rescuers recovered the pet and transported its body to its owners at Ladram Bay beach.
