STAFF at Brown’s Bistro in Sidmouth are celebrating cooking up Taste of the West success.

The Fore Street eatery landed a bronze award just months after the business joined the initiative.

Delighted owner Sue Turner says the restaurant will be going for gold next year.

“I was very surprised - it was our first year being a member of Taste of the West,” she told the Herald.

“We’re all chuffed and so are our customers.

“It’s been a nice little boost for us all. It’s great to be recognised that you’re doing something right.

“We know we can improve, and can go for gold next year. It shows what can be achieved.”

Sue said Brown’s prides itself on using local suppliers and serving up fresh food.

“One of the first things we did when we bought the place two-and-a-half-years ago was to turn off all but one of the freezers – and we only use that to keep things like ice in,” she added.

Sue praised chef Luke Reed for producing food and putting menus together.
