Cash boost for Sidmouth FolkWeek

Sidmouth is set to buzz once more this FolkWeek after the festival received a £2,500 boost.
Councillor Stuart Hughes donated the cash from his county council locality budget due to the benefit the week-long event had on the town’s economy.
He said: “It’s because the folk festival means so much to Sidmouth; the local businesses rely on that week, it is important to keep the festival in Sidmouth and do everything we can to help it.”
John Braithwaite, festival director, said the money will be spent on content for its programme and accommodation for performers.
He said: “All the performers cost the festival money to put them up in the campsite and they give their time willingly and for free but having them there adds to that lovely atmosphere and buzz there is in the town.”
The festival is also reducing plastic by offering performers reusable water bottles and are encouraging visitors to bring their own tankards to save the number of plastic glasses at food stalls.
