FORTFIELD LATEST: Public exhibition over 48 apartments blueprints for fire-hit former hotel

A VISION to transform Sidmouth’s derelict Fortfield Hotel into 48 apartments will be revealed for the first time tomorrow (Wednesday, January 26).

Residents will get a glimpse of proposals - that include demolition of the fire-hit building - at a public exhibition at Kennaway House.

Hopeful developers of the site will stage a pair of information sessions from 4pm to 5pm and 6pm to 7pm in the venue’s cellar bar.

A short presentation will take place before a question and answer slot.

Designs for the Fortfield are being kept under wraps until the event.

The Herald revealed this month how Fortfield owner Andrew Torjussen and development partner, Poundbury, Dorchester, based firm ZeroC, hope to regenerate the site with a new building.

Kim Slowe, managing director of ZeroC, said the proposed new structure would be no bigger than the existing hotel.

“We are very confident these are good plans and they will succeed,” site owner Mr Torjussen told the Herald earlier this month.

“It is in the interest of everybody to have a nice building there.”
