A FUNDRAISER from Sidmouth hopes silence will prove to be golden in her quest to boost children with learning difficulties from around East Devon.

Rebecca Knight, 27, of Ice House Lane, will take on a 48-hour sponsored silence and a 30-mile charity walk to raise cash in a bid to buy a therapy chair for the special school where she is a teaching assistant.

Rebecca and colleagues hope to raise 2,500 for the “incredible” chair which they say will make a huge difference to children from Sidmouth, Ottery and the rest of the region who go to Mill Water School in Honiton.

Rebecca has appealed to Sidmouth residents and businesses for help in her bid to raise cash.

“I’ll be carrying out a 48 hour sponsored silence. If you knew me, you’d know how hard that is going to be!” she told the Herald.

“I’ll also be doing a 30-mile sponsored walk from Exeter to Sidmouth and back.

“One of our pupils tried out therapy chair- it was absolutely amazing and has inspired us to buy it for the school. It would be a massive benefit for the children.

“I’d be so grateful if anyone could sponsor me or donate prizes for a raffle.”

Mill Water caters for nearly 100 pupils with moderate and severe learning difficulties and those with profound and multiple needs. Some have challenging behaviour and a high proportion are on the autistic spectrum.
