SIDMOUTH Gig Club received a 310 boost from Waitrose as part of the supermarket’s Community Matters scheme.
Store manager Mark Shepherd presented a cheque to club chairman Nigel Winchester, fundraising committee member Trevor Botterill, and other members last week.. Funding for a competitive wooden gig is now almost complete, say excited rowers.
To mark the gig club’s current glass reinforced plastic boat Alma’s first birthday, celebrations will be held at Port Royal on Sunday (August 28).
Tea and cakes will be on sale from 2pm and open rowing sessions, weather permitting, will be held all afternoon for anybody who wants to have a go.
The afternoon will finish at around 5pm with the cutting of Alma’s birthday cake.
