SIDMOUTH Gig Club members are ‘thrilled’ after learning they were successful in a 10,000 bid to Sport England for cash to purchase a new boat.
Fundraisers Jeremy Cloke and Kerry Gibbons spent hours preparing the documentation and thanked every town resident who filled in survey forms that enabled the application to be accepted.
The bumper cash grant will go towards a new wooden gig to enable the club to enter competitive racing.
Rowers will still use existing boat, Alma, to train.
Alma will celebrate her first birthday on Sunday, August 28, as Sidmouth Regatta takes place.
A part of celebrations, Sidmouth will host its first gig race that afternoon against Portland Gig Club.
