Sidmouth goes pink for breast cancer day

SIDMOUTH businesses are painting the town pink on Friday to raise funds for Cancer Research UK s breast cancer awareness month campaign.

SIDMOUTH businesses are painting the town pink on Friday to raise funds for Cancer Research UK's breast cancer awareness month campaign.

Nearly 40 shops and offices have contacted Lenny Titherington, manager of the Sidmouth Cancer Research UK shop, to confirm they will be wearing pink, offering coffee and hanging up pink bras in support of the day.

A special menu will be on offer at The Anchor, while Gilbert and Stephens solicitors will have coffee for sale.

Hairdressers are going to town, with staff at Element, Special FX and Hair Loft among those donning pink wigs and outfits.

Pink ice cream will be on offer at Taste of Sidmouth and at the Little Dairy, Church Street, which will also have ribbons on its coffee.

At the Radway Cinema, balloons with prizes inside, will be sold to raise funds, and volunteers at the Cancer Research UK shop will be selling cakes and 53 pink scarves knitted by supporters.

Lenny said: "We have had fantastic support as a community, with 37 businesses involved.

"This is our third year of holding a Pink Day and last year w-e had 27 taking part.

"As a community support is second to none. I think a lot of people are affected by breast cancer and it hits home.

"We do promote the day, Philippa Dunn from Beauty Within has been round the town delivering leaflets, but I also think Sidmouth has a very good community spirit, and this has grown."

Collecting goblets will be around the town for donations and Lenny hopes the day will raise at least �2,000.
