Sidmouth residents asked to write good will messages to human right victims
PUBLISHED: 07:00 05 December 2018
Residents are being asked to send messages of good will and solidarity to victims of human right violations across the world.
As part of the annual Write for Rights Campaign, the East Devon Amnesty International group will be holding a card signing evening at Twyford House, in Coburg Road, Sidmouth on Thursday, December 6 between 6.30pm and 9pm.
Everyone has been invited to sign cards and letters which will be sent to the 12 cases featured in this year’s campaign.
Last year the group sent more than 300 messages and the team would like to send even more this year.
A spokesperson said: “It doesn’t take long to write a card but it can have a great impact. In previous years prison conditions have improved, threats and intimidations have ceased, and some people have been released from prison after cards and letters were sent.
“Sending a card is a small gesture which sends a powerful message. Cards, postage and refreshments will be provided.”
