Trip from Australia ends with quilt gift from grandmother
YOUNG Orla Dolye is over the moon with the quilt her grandmother made.
She has travelled a long way to see it – from Sydney, Australia – exhibited as part of Sidmouth Patchers and Quilters two-day exhibition in aid of Children’s Hospice South West.
Her grandma, Angela Crowther, made the quilt, which tells the story of her 11-year-old granddaughter’s life.
It was one of many on show at Kennaway House on Tuesday and Wednesday, attended by Colaton Raleigh’s acclaimed artist Alan Cotton.
Angela began the quilt last Christmas, and has already made them for Orla’s brother Stanley, 13, and sister Dotty, eight.
She said: “Orla is absolutely over the moon and said she will treasure it all her life.”
The single quilt has pictures of a piano, violin, ballet shoes, and other items associated with Orla’s life.
The three grandchildren are on a short visit to Sidmouth with mum Vanessa, a former St Nicholas Junior School pupil.
