A FIELDS of Sidmouth worker is getting her hiking boots on this month to support the department store's charity of the year.
Becca Dawson, 44, will be walking 100 miles over the next few weeks to raise funds for Cornwall-based Ellie's Haven.
Fields staff announced earlier this year they would collect donations for the worthwhile charity which aims to create a retreat that will provide a haven for south west families with children who have life threatening illnesses.
Ellie's Haven was set-up by determined parents Julie and Nigel Libby, whose son died of an unknown genetic illness when he was one.
Four years later they had Ellie who, despite being diagnosed with almost identical problems as her brother, has just passed her fifth birthday.
Becca, who has worked in the store's café for seven years, said: "When I heard about the charity it was a bit of a revelation.
"I was really moved by it. I think it is an incredible story and a very worthwhile charity."
Ellie's dad made a trip to Sidmouth in March to thank staff for their support and it is hoped when she is strong enough Ellie will also visit.
Becca, of Colyford Road, Seaton, started her 100-mile challenge on Tuesday evening and intends to walk eight or nine miles in circuits throughout June until she completes her target.
She has already been pledged £400 in donations from kind customers and intends to raise awareness of the cause during her walks by wearing a sash emblazoned with the charity's name.
In the past Becca has taken part in the charity MoonWalk in both London and Edinburgh to raise funds for a cancer charity close to her heart.
She added: "The money I have been sponsored for this walk so far is just from customers asking what I am doing this year for charity - I haven't even asked anyone yet if they would like to sponsor me!"
Fields staff are dedicated to coin in as much cash as possible for Ellie's Haven and have collection tins on each till, sell the charity's badges and arrange fundraising events such as staff quizzes, raffles and cake sales.
Their 2009 charity of the year was Devon Air Ambulance and in 2008 it was cancer charity FORCE.
