A DEVELOPER building 103 new Sidmouth homes got a double boost from town planners in its bid to amend already approved blueprints.

A DEVELOPER building 103 new Sidmouth homes got a double boost from town planners in its bid to amend already approved blueprints.

Persimmon Homes wants to swap a single dwelling for a “more expensive” incarnation on a plot on land north of Woolbrook Road and make alterations that will create 10 extra parking spaces on another.

Sidmouth Town Council Planning Committee members have supported both bids.

One disgruntled resident has meanwhile labelled having a home near the huge development as “like living on the M25.”

Sixty per cent of dwellings at the site will be ‘affordable’.

Persimmon is seeking new planning permission to “substitute” an approved house type for another, including the provision of an associated garage, access and parking spaces.

“It’s one plot where they are replacing a home which didn’t quite fit in as ‘affordable’ with one which is a bit more expensive. It is only one property,” said Councillor Peter Sullivan when councillors discussed plans last Wednesday.

The firm also wants to create an extra parking space for each of 10 homes by repositioning garages.

“It’s an extra space per plot,” added Cllr Sullivan.

“We’ve always worried about the amount of parking spaces - its not taking away amenity space,” he added.

One Ladymead resident responded to a public consultation over the latest plans by saying: “What is the point of commenting, nothing is done about the ongoing noise and dust that’s created about the building at the back of us. It’s like living on the M25.”

East Devon District Council will consider the town’s view when it decides the fate of plans.
