Sidmouth Hospice nurses work to care for people at home

SIDMOUTH Hospice, whose four nurses work out in the community from their May Terrace base, have been presented with £1,000 – some of the money raised at a recent fashion show.

Just Jackets was the last show to be organised by Sidmouth resident Kate Norbury and friends, and it raised a whopping £1,900.

The sell-out event at Branscombe Village Hall, was Kate’s swansong, after previous shows, done under the Branscombe WI banner, proved just as successful.

Hospice nurses Rachael MacKinnon and Christine Hussey, together with the charity’s secretary, Carrie Machin, received the cheque on Friday.

“It is a tremendous amount to help Sidmouth to continue to do its work, this money goes for Sidmouth hospice care,” said Christine.

The Sidmouth charity has 70 people on its books that need care, whether day or night, and, said the nurses, this number increased each year.

“We don’t have a hospice, we have four Hospice nurses and we administer care to patients in their own homes to enable them to carry on and we co-ordinate care with local GPs.”

Rachael said the hospice had a patient-funded hospice bed in Sidmouth Hospital

Just Jacket models Pat Grove and Vivienne Diston joined Kate for the cheque hand-over.
