Garden party at Powderham for 600 Hospiscare volunteers celebrates Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service

A garden party at Powderham Castle is being held to celebrate Hospiscare volunteers winning the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.

On Wednesday, September 10, more than 50 volunteers from Sidmouth and Ottery St Mary areas will be among 600 to enjoy tea in a marquee on the lawns at Powderham, as well as a special tour of castle rooms, including the magnificent libraries and sitting room.

Hosting the day will be the charity’s patron, Lady Clifford of Chudleigh.

“This is a very special occasion when we get the chance to serve our volunteers for a change,” said Hospiscare’s volunteering manager Vicky Lachenicht.

“Winning this award is an extraordinary achievement for our supporters and we wanted to do something really special to say congratulations and thank you.”

The castle has been made available thanks to Lady Devon, one of the Hospiscare’s ambassadors.

The charity, which supports patients and families throughout Exeter, East and Mid Devon, has nearly 1,000 volunteers, who together contribute £1million of effort each year.
