YOUNGSTERS from Sidmouth Infants, who jointly won the Children's Cup for painting bumblebees and butterflies at last summer's annual Gardening and Craft Show in Sidford, have taken possession of the cup from Sidbury Primary.

The two schools were awarded the cup for six months each after judges could not choose an outright winner at the show, run by Sid Valley Horticultural Society.

Ten individual winners were chosen from Sidmouth Infants' entries and three got to hold the cup this week.

"The children just went at it and did really well. It was a lovely surprise they won and I am really proud of what they did," said head teacher Hilary Williams, who is sure pupils will have fun entering this year's competition painting creepy crawlies.

Show secretary Beryl Kingman said they would have more scope this year as they could use any medium for their creations.

She also hopes the school will enter decorated biscuits with funny faces for the show, which takes place in a marquee at Sidford sports ground, Byes Lane, on Saturday, August 15.

This year four schools and four pre-schools will be taking part in the 81st show: Sidmouth College, Sidbury Primary, All Saints Infants, Sidmouth Infants, Apple Tree Pre-School, All Saints Pre-School, Sidford Playgroup and Sidmouth Day Care Nursery.
