Working in the jewellery business in the glamourous West End of London as a young lady left a lasting impression on Sue Elliott who has returned to the trade she loves as the owner of Sidmouth Jewellers.

Leaving London and the trade she has such a fondness for was not an easy thing to do for Sue but, as with so many of us, personal circumstances often dictate decisions, however Sue always yearned to get back into the business in some form.

Six years ago she took the opportunity to work with the former owner of the Sidmouth store Kelvin, who sadly passed away less than a year later. Sue was presented with the opportunity to buy the business and has never looked back.

After her first year at the helm she employed Erin, who has been a real asset to the business and carries out a majority of the engraving work, catering for most of the independent sports clubs within the area as well as personal engravings.

Accommodating all manner of repairs adds another dimension to the business and following the retirement of their watch repairer, Sue worked quickly to find someone equally capable of producing the same high-quality repairs that her customers expect and is proud of the turnaround they can now offer to customers.

Speaking earlier this week, Sue said: “The last year has been tough for everyone and we don’t appear to be completely out of the woods yet but it has been a joy to be open again and to welcome back so many regular customers as well as people who are coming to us for the first time.
“The shop celebrates its 21st birthday this year, and we would like to thank all those who come to us on a regular basis. We are looking forward to another 21 years in Sidmouth.”
