THE Friends of Kennaway House have organized a giant raffle, with the prize of a valuable quilt.

The quilt has been given by North Sea Quilters, professional long-arm quilters based in the Netherlands, one of whom is Leslie Taylor, daughter of Jackie Street, Chair of the Friends.

The quilt would look magnificent on a double bed and is probably worth around 2,000. To date tickets have raised about 1,200 and the Friends are working to raise this to 2,000 by the time the raffle is drawn on 10th December. So this is your last chance to buy a ticket that may win a beautiful and useful object, designed to match the Regency style of Kennaway House. Tickets at 2 are available from the office at Kennaway House, which is usually open 9.30 to 4.00 Monday to Friday (phone 01395 515551).

Barclays Community Fund are matching the first 750 raised.

Dr Michael James, Chairman of Kennaway House said: "It was extremely generous of Leslie and the North Sea Quilters to give us this beautiful piece of work. The Friends are continuing to be a huge support to Kennaway House now that it is restored and open for all the many things that happen here. The concert the Friends organised with Val Howels on 19th November raised around 1,500 and they hope to add 2,000 to that from the quilt raffle. This support is really important to us as a charity and the trustees are very grateful."
