Sidmouth library's opening hours have been cut. Read this and more news
LIBRARY: Opening hours at Sidmouth Library have been cut. In particular, the library will close all day on Tuesdays and will now revert to only being open on Saturday mornings, from 9am to 1pm, instead of 9.30am to 4pm.
Thirty minutes has been shaved of opening times on Mondays and Fridays, with new opening times now 9am to 6pm, and on Wednesdays and Thursdays, it will stay open as long, but starting at 9am instead of 9.30am and closing at 5pm instead of 5.30pm.
HARVEST: Sidbury Primary School’s harvest service at St Giles’ Church, took place on Wednesday. Harvest gifts brought in will be given to St Petrock’s, Exeter.
CARNIVAL: All lessons and activities at Sidbury Primary School during the week beginning Monday, October 17, will have a carnival theme.
Mornings will be spent concentrating on Carnival of the Animals, Mardi Gras, Notting Hill Carnival, Sidmouth Carnival and other carnivals around the world. There will be different activities during the afternoons and parents will be invited to join their children for a carnival procession around the school on Friday of that week.
DEMENTIA: More than 500 people living in Sidmouth, who are among nearly 80,000 in the South West suffering with dementia, will soon benefit from a new What Works resource pack.
Commissioned by the South West Dementia Partnership, and written by people with dementia, carers, volunteers and staff, the pack, launched this week, is for people and organisations wanting to engage and consult with dementia sufferers.
The resource pack is made up of 18 cards, each aimed at giving specific information, advice and top tips on a range of topics to help overcome or prevent memory loss and confusion, and support people with dementia to get involved in activities while recognising their current abilities. It is expected to make the resource pack available in electronic and booklet format across the region. More details at: www.southwestdementiapartnership.org.uk.
RAF: Sidmouth folk are asked to nominate their local RAF heroes for a seat at the Salute to Bomber Command banquet in London next month to celebrate the building of the Bomber Command Memorial, Green Park, which pays tribute to the 55,573 men and women who died in World War Two.
The event is at the Natural History Museum on Tuesday, November 8. Ten retired or serving men and women from the RAF, selected by the public, will be invited to the banquet.
