STAFF at Sidmouth Library have got in the Christmas spirit and are hoping to spread some festive cheer amongst the town's readers.

Library members can win tickets to see Holiday on Ice In Exeter in February.

The competition is part of a whole host of games, activities and interactive fun in the Winter edition of The Zone, Devon County Council's library website for children. A portable DVD player is also up for grabs.

Youngsters need to print off and complete the Christmas Past wordsearch document and hand the completed entry form into the library or post it to M@x c/o Library HQ, Great Moor House, Bittern Road, Sowton, Exeter, EX2 7NL. To enter, go to www.devon.gov.uk/thezone.

Adventurous bookworms may also be tempted by the 'mystery parcels' kept in a sack by the library's counter. They can be stamped out as a regular library book which readers aren't allowed to open the wrapping and find out what the book is until they get home.

Readers are then asked to add a review of the book using a comments slip, whether they would have chosen the book, and what they enjoyed or didn't like about it.

The Christmas surprise book parcels will be available until Christmas Eve.
