Sidmouth Lifeboat was called out this afternoon (May 19) after reports of a kite surfer getting into difficulty.
In its second call out of the year, a crew launched Sidmouth 2 at 2.40pm following a page by HM Coastguard.
The kite surfer was found a quarter-of-a-mile off of Sidmouth.
A lifeboat spokesman said: “With the kite surfer close in amongst rocky ground off of East Beach, Sidmouth 2 was launched to check his well being and then offer assistance. He was confirmed ok, but was determined to recover himself to the shore, which he eventually managed with Sidmouth 2 and Sidmouth Cliff Rescue Team standing by to monitor his safety.”
By 3.15pm the kite surfer had returned to shore, prompting the crew to stand down.
