Sidmouth Lifeboat's new rescue ski has been christened with the help of the town's scouts.

The crew set youngsters from 1st Sid Vale Scout group the challenge to come up with a new for their new vessel before choosing their favourite.

Gethin Phillips came up with the catchy name of ‘SidSki’ and was invited to a naming ceremony with his family at the station.

The scout also received a naming certificate and a replica model of the Lifeboat’s main craft The Pride of Sidmouth.

The Reverend Brian Hadfield started the service by giving a short remembrance for the founding member of Sidmouth Lifeboat, Al Phillips, who died at the age of 73, before blessing the jet ski.

Guy Russell, senior coxswain, then spoke about the importance of the rescue ski in callouts. At the end of the ceremony, the crew launched SidSki and providing a short rescue demonstration close in shore.

SidSki now joins Speedy Sid, a 2 man-RIB, and the Pride of Sidmouth, the 4-crew Arctic 24 to make up Sidmouth Lifeboat’s rescue vessels.
